TREASURE OF A BARN

If you have traveled to Carrboro on Old Fayetteville Road you will see a new home that celebrates the treasure of old barns while creating a new living space on the land. The home owners were very intrigued by the Norman Rockwell view of the property when they first set their eyes on the Civil War Era barns in this pastoral setting. They wanted to build their dream home there, but insisted on maintaining the integrity of the barns as the inspiration for their home.
They decided that the home style would be that of a modern farmhouse. The home is designed in such a way to mirror the look of the individual barns by appearing to have independent structures connected together. Build Ex is the contractor that worked closely to make their dream a reality. Build Ex was the homeowners' choice they say because Build Ex specializes in local building projects that are energy efficient in nature.
The house was designed as three separate living areas connected by hallways made of storefront glass to make them seem transparent. The three living areas are the main living quarters, the kids' area, and the master bedroom area. The main living quarters features the great room, kitchen, breakfast nook, dining room, and an upstairs studio. The kids' area has three bedrooms, an office, and a large second floor play area/art studio. The master bedroom area features the master bedroom, master bathroom, master closets, and yoga room.
Using Green Building techniques, the home features many Build Ex luxury amenities such as a gourmet kitchen with professional appliances, a relaxing master bath with steam shower and sauna room, metal staircases with stainless steel railings, stained concrete floors with radiant floor heating, real maple floors, cork floors and much more!
In building this custom residence, Build Ex continued its track record of building homes on time and on budget while keeping their customer satisfied. This completely customized home was built in less than six months.
In North Carolina, tobacco barns and general-purpose barns color the landscape and are a reminder of our state's agrarian roots. “The memories that our grandparents have of the tobacco barns and the traditions associated with them remain in their minds and are passed on to us in their stories,” Build Ex builder Chris Ehrenfeld said.
Unfortunately, preserving an old barn is very costly and it takes someone who values tradition and has the deep-rooted desire to preserve past memories, a person who is willing to commit the time and money to hold on to the past.
BUILD Ex &The Environment:
Build Ex's philosophy regarding the environment is based on a very simple premise – reduction. Build Ex couples the latest materials and building techniques to make their homes energy efficient, which reduces the amount of wasted energy and lowers the homeowner's cost of living. Build Ex also relies on environmentally conscious products such as engineered wood products that use less old growth forests and instead use technology to minimize environmental waste while creating stronger, straighter products. Build Ex built this home, like all its homes, to be very environmentally friendly.
